ELECTRONICS

The Brain of the Rocket

Avionics in Portal Space is responsible for the electronic and software systems responible for controlling the rocket during testing and flight. You will get experience planning and designing flight ready systems, PCB schematic and layout design, redundant system design, inter board communication, soldering, low level software, hardware and software testing, power systems and much more.

Telemetry in Portal Space is responsible for the architecture and dataflow in the rocket and on the ground. In the Telemetry department you will get experience planning and designing robust large systems, long distance communication, high and low level software, error reporting and correction, human machine interfaces, antenna design, pcb schematic and layout, computer accesory design and much more.

The Electronics department is your gateway to a future in the technology sector.

Sensor Reader and Timer

Responsible for monitoring the state of the rocket as well as gathering date on performance with a multitude of sensor systems.

Surveillance

Responsible for making a wireless and easy to use surveillance system so that we can make sure the test and launch area is secure.

Main Valves

Responsible for accuratly actuating the main valves and converting the commands from the engine controller to physical movement.

Power Supply

Responsible for converting the main batteries voltage level to what each subsystem requires as well as protecting the system and batteries.

Logging Unit

Responsible for logging any interesting data and events that happen in the rocket.

Ground Systems

Responsible for actuating the raising and lowering of the launch pad and triggering the nitrogen quick disconnect.

Navigation

Responsible for knowing where the rocket is and deciding on the optimal place for activating the recovery system.

Recovery

Responsible for slowing the rocket down for a safe landing. This is implemeted with redundency along all information paths.

Mission Control

Responsible for creating a human interface to both control and read the state of the rocket.

Solenoid Valve Controller

Responsible for physically actuating the pressure systems of the rocket. Converting the commands from the ECU into physical responses.

Engine Control Unit

The engine control unit is responsible for managing the systems that allows the engine to operate. This includes the main valves and the pressure systems pressurizing the rocket.

Command and Control

Responsible for the high level command and control of the rocket, designing the information paths and collecting the states of the different submodules.
